{UAH} Ntoroko Gunfire: UPDF Colonel Dies

UPDF Lieutenant Colonel Richard Muhangi is dead, Chimp Corps report.
The former Commanding Officer of the 3rd Mountain Battalion under 2nd Division in Western Uganda on Monday succumbed to wounds sustained in a shootout with suspected arms dealersin Ntoroko last month.
"He passed on," said UPDF spokesperson, Brigadier Richard Karemire.
"The postmortem report will give cause of death," he added.
Karemire said Lt Col Muhangi had "undergone an amputation of his limb but was recovering steadily in Bombohospital under arrest."
It all started on June 23 with Ntoroko intelligence officers receiving information that arms dealers intended to buy arms from the area.
Police and military officers from the 3rd Mountain battalion decided to lay a trap using 10 police guns and 6 loaded magazines to get the suspects.
The operation led to the arrest of suspects but in the scuffle two suspected gun traffickers were shot dead while Lt Col Muhangi got shot in the leg.
Muhangi was briefly admitted at Fort Portal Regional hospital for treatment before being arrested and transferred to Bombo.
ChimpReports understands that on July 7, four suspects appeared before Court in Fort Portal on charges of murder and aggrevated robbery.
The suspects are DPC Ntoroko, ASP Gerald Atuhairwe, DISO Sgt Brian Babishanga, Pte Ivan Bakashaba and SPC Abdul Kyarimpa.
They were remanded at Katojo government Prison.
The army is expected to reveal more details about Lt Col Muhangi's burial arrangements.
