{UAH} BESIGYE NO RAILA

KIZZA BESIGYENOT RAILA ODINGA AT ALL
I always hear people comparing Dr. Kizza Besigye to Raila Odinga, how,
not at all.
Raila Osdinga is a son of a veteran politician and independence
nationalist Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. Besigye is a son of a petroleum
businessperson but not politician.
Hat is not big. However Raila Odinga has a political base in his
Nyanza home region and its surroundings and at the peak of his
popularity in 2007, he had swept Rift Valley, when still in alliance
with Wlliam Ruto, Western Province, Ukambani and entire Eastern
Province, the Coast, etc…
Mwai Kibaki, whim, he had defeated , his popularity had dwindled to
almost Central Province and probably North Eastern Province.
Even when his support was swept away, Raila remained with a base at
Kibera in Nairobi and Kisumu in Nyanza.
But where is our poor Besigye based? Rukungiri? Kigezi? Kasangati? He
is nowhere. Kasangati which was used to be his base, last time he
fielded a candidate in names of Kantinti and was thoroughly defeated.
Besigye also used to say that he had 90 support in UPDF but the way he
is mistreated by security forces, one wonders whether Besigye has any
support in UPDF.
It was only Uganda Police Force that was traditionally allied to the
opposition. But thanks to Gen. Kale Kayihura, all that is history.
So Besigye may stick to FDC as its presidential flag bearer as
Maj.Gen.Mugisha Muntu may not out compete him. The little he can get
for FDC is to become Leader of Opposition if the magnanimous President
Museveni and broad based NRM allow it.
He will not share power as Prime Minister with some executive powers
like Twagiramungu was in Rwanda, Raila Odinga in Kenya, Tsvangiray in
Zimbabwe. He is not that level.
So comparing Besigye to Raila, even if the latter has also proved a
political failure, is comparing a frog to a cow. They don't march.
