NANSANA MURDERS: Residents Pin Police On Killings, Kayihura Proposes Van To Transport Sex Workers At Night
There was drama in Nansana Wakiso district after residents accuse police for conniving with the criminals to terrorize them leading to high crime rate in the area.
Kayihura was meeting residents during a public Baraza held at Royal Gardens resort to find a solution for high rate of crimes in the area.
Shantari Mukaburenzi one of the residents told Gen Kayihura that he went to police and told the Officer In-Charge about people who commit offences in the area but the officer told her to shift from the area.
"I went to Nansana police and told the OC about people who sell marijuana in the area and the OC told me to shift if thought that they will kill me," said Shantari as she spotted the Oc who was identified as one ASP Tayebwa.
Another resident also told Kayihura that criminals deal with police officers because they give them fuel and some money.
"Some mafias crushed down my house and when I went to police at Katoke to report the case, police officers told me to bring money for transport which I could not raise and I ended up losing my house," another resident told Kayihura.
KAYIHURA SPEAKS OUT
Kayihura while speaking to the residents said that he will crack down on all police officers who deal with criminals.
"I want you residents to give me information about police officers who deal with criminals and I work on them without fear or favor," said Kayihura
Kayihura further urged residents to work with police in fighting crime.
"These criminals stay with you in the same area and you know them, just report them to us and we work on them," said Police chief.
ON NANSANA MURDERS
The police Chief said investigations have linked Nansana murders to human sacrifice.
"When we arrested the main killer who was identified as Kaweesi who confessed to have killed eight women, he said he was sent by one Tumusiime a businessman to get for him blood which he will use to get rich," said Kayihura.
Kayihura further said that police has proofs and evidence about people that have been killing people in Nansana and Katabi in Entebbe.
"When we arrested Kaweesi, he had a phone of the murdered sex worker and he told us that he killed eight sex workers," added Kayihura.
He further said that police also got information that some husbands of the sex workers plotted for their murder and police has arrested them.
Kayihura also said that police will provide a van which be transporting sex workers from their work to their homes.
"We should get a van that will be transporting sex workers from their work to their homes at night such that they don't get killed," said Kayihura.
Ian Kyeyune the RDC for Wakiso district said that crime in Nansana is very high and needs joint efforts to fight it.
"Crime in Nansana has not been easy for the last 20 years. Even in 1990 murders in Nansana were high and the President was forced to come to the area to find out what was wrong," he said.
He added that the President to some measures which ended the crime in the area.
Kyeyune also told Kayihura that excessive guns in the area have become a serious problem.
"IGP we don't know his many people own guns in Nansana and when I tried to register people with guns I was failed by security officers in the area," said Kyeyune.
He also said that the high population in Nansana has also attributed to crime. "Every criminal hide in Nansana and people who commit crimes also hide in Nansana and it has become difficult to trace them," he added.
