{UAH} New father in Law.
Frank Mujabi/ Gwokto,
-- For two years now since the last of my children went to University, I have been living on my own. The children just come and go as they wish, but otherwise I am on my own, just me and my dog.Lucky. But this year, my son finished university and moved back home with his mother in London since it is nearer his place of work. It is one of my houses that I left for her when we divorced. But he came back with a girlfriend from University, something his mother was not too pleased about. Now he has had a bust up with the mother and today is now moving back with me to to his old room in Hemel Hempstead. The only problem for him is the distance- Hemel Hempstead to London is almost two hours by train!!! But he has no alternative, except to buy a house of his own on mortgage, something I have told him not to do as he is still only a trainee- there is no point getting into a commitment that early in his career- and he is only 23 years old.
This is a problem with a lot of parents of my age. Their children are finishing university and then come back home to live with the parents again. Renting in London is now so costly, one bed flat goes for almost £1200 per month!!! Many children have no choice but to go back home- many are staying even beyond 30 years of age. And with the housing shortage in London, there is simply no chance of any young person getting social or council housing.
Anyway, so there goes my freedom. I have to be a father again- and a new experience of being a father in law- something I have never experienced in my life before. I suppose life is all about learning and adjusting.
