Kassanda South MP, Simeo Nsubuga, can now rest assured that his ministerial dream is within reach as attested by a cabinet sitting on Friday.
The legislator's ministerial dream took shape on Saturday following a cabinet announcement that gives him protection from those opposed to the removal of the presidential age limit clause.
In an August 5, 2017, press release issued by Frank K. Tumwebaze, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, cabinet condemned politically motivated intolerance among sections of the political class resulting into physical attacks on targeted people.
Cabinet took strong exception to the incident which occurred in Mubende at the celebrations to commemorate His Highness the Kabaka's coronation where a one Ntege (aka 'Kyuma Kyayesu') attacked Hon. Simeo Nsubuga in full public glare allegedly on account of the views Hon. Nsubuga holds on the proposed amendment of Article 102(b) of the Constitution being discussed in the public arena.
"Similar cases of extreme intolerance involving actual physical attacks and/or assault against Hon. Ibrahim Abiriga, Hon. Betty Kamya and Hon. Kahinda Otafiire have also been reported. This is not only unacceptable but criminal," Tumwebaze said in a release.
He said cabinet condemned the extreme cases of intolerance that are resulting into episodes of violence.
Tumwebaze has thus directed the Police and other law enforcement agencies to firmly take action against any person alleged to be intimidating and/or attacking any other citizen on account of his/her divergent views.
"Government will protect the rights of all," he said, clarifying that cabinet noted that some leaders have been going in the media to issue threats against others with different views."
He said government has not yet discussed the issue of age limit as contained in article 102(b). The ongoing discussions in the public domain are citizen driven."
Simeo's future brightens
Simeo shared Tumwebaze's release on his Facebook page and let his constituents see for themselves that even cabinet was behind him.
He had earlier gone to his constituency where he took pictures with a select people who responded to his invitation.
The constituents held placards praising President Museveni for making roads and developing their constituency.
Simeo, donning a yellow shirt, is seen making an NRM sign and smiling from "ear to ear".
He revealed his dream to this handful of his constituents, asking their support in the age limit crusade.
According to David Kabanda, the NRM chairman youth league in Sembabule district, Arua Municipality MP, Ibrahim Abiriga, and Simeo are imitating what Privatisation minister, Evelyn Anite did to land a ministerial post.
Legendary Radio personality, Basajja Mivule, said when Abiriga and Simeo realised that Anite became a minister after kneeling for the president, they are now doing everything he can to please him.
Anite, then Northern Uganda Youth MP in 2014, went on her knees at a Kyankwanzi parliamentary caucus to force Museveni stand again in 2016 elections.
Anite would become the minister of state for Youth Affairs and Children in the next cabinet before progressing to minister of State for Privatisation [her current position].
Abiriga and Simeo are headed in the same direction.
