At least five people have been killed by a gunman who went on a killing spree through a northern Californian town on Tuesday morning.
The unnamed gunman was eventually killed by police at the Rancho Tehama Elementary School in northern California where he opened fire on students and staff as parents dropped off their children at around 8am.
It was his final stop on a deadly tour of the town which also involved him shooting a woman and her child as they drove past him in their truck.
The shooting spree began at 7.52am at an address in the town where he shot several residents.
From there, the gunman is believed to have used a stolen truck to travel to the school where he injured at least three children and one adult before being brought down.
On his way, he opened fire on a woman and her daughter who was in a Ford truck on the main road leading in to the town. Both were taken to hospital along with three children and an adult from the school.

According to KHSLTV, the shooter was known to police and was out on bail for stabbing a woman when he committed the killings on Tuesday.
He has not been named.
Temaha County Sheriff's Deputies are still grappling with the facts and have confirmed that they are working across seven different crime scenes where they believe the gunman attacked.
Multiple students were airlifted to hospital it is not yet known of those killed were children or adults.
One six-year-old child was shot twice and another, whose age is not known, was shot in the leg, according to USA Today local affiliate the Record Searchlight.
Witnesses described hearing 'hundreds' of rounds as the shooting unfolded. Another, who lives near the school, described hearing children screaming.
One man, who was dropping off his daughter at kindergarten at the time, said there were two gunmen including one who was dressed in camouflage who he said ran away from the scene.
Police have not yet mentioned a second shooter but confirmed the school was secure.
'We heard multiple shots, starting with about 10, and proceeding to about 90 shots, of a high powered some kind of rifle sounding.
'We heard a man and children screaming from my location, I'm about three blocks from the school, I could hear people screaming at the school,' one witness, who gave her name only as Tiffany, told ABC affiliate KRCTV.
One man interviewed claimed the gunman was his neighbor and that he stole his roommate's truck and shot him first before going to the school.
In an impromptu press conference by the side of the road, sheriff's deputy Phil Johnston gave a timeline of the horror.

There was a large police presence on the road leading into the town on Tuesday morning
'This morning at 7.52am, we received multiple 911 calls of a shooting that occurred at Bobcat Lane which is in the upper end of the Rancho Tehama Reserve.
'That resulteed in multiple 911 calls of multiple different shooting sites including the elementary school.
'It was very clear in the early onset that we had a subject that was randomly picking targets,' he said.
One man who lives on the street where the shooting began claims it was his roommate who was killed.
'I got a call to say the person who stays in my house had been shot.
'I drove home and the police have everything blocked off. I heard there was a shooting and I'm getting more information that my other neighbors were shot.
'My truck was stolen and used today in the crime and it's terrible.'
The man added that the gunman was 'crazy' and that he was on bond for stabbing one of his female neighbors.
'As far as we know he was crazy. He shoots a lot of gunshots at night, in the morning. Like a hundred rounds,' he said.
