{UAH} SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

IS MUNTU IN FOOTSTEPS OF BINAISA OR MUSEVENI?
At the peak of state inspired and other killings in and around
Kampala, in 1979, President Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa, in his capacity
as Commander In Chief of Uganda Armed Forces, promised to talk to the
nation in a midnight.
People had to forego asleep and wondered whether he was going to fire
the Army Chief of Staff Brig. David Oyite Ojok, chasing out Tanzanian
forces and replace them with Commonwealth forces, etc….
However, when the UNLF Chairperson talked to the nation, he fired Idi
Amin Dada from Uganda Armed Forces, and stripped him the Filed Marshal
rank.
The whole country was disappointed and wondered whether that would
stop killings.
Probably, Binaisa was scheduled to make drastic announcements but was
restrained from doing so, or he had thought that expelling Amin from
the army, could make a land mark.
Likewise, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu caused people's appetites to rise
but the food he provided was almost Binaisa's big announcement.
However he was not likely to form a party now as his MPs , to go with
him officially, would have to loose their seats.
That may be for a later date and probably not in the immediate future.
But the disgruntled inside and outside FDC are likely to join a third
force.
The first third force in Uganda was formed at City now Constitutional
Square in 1980 by integrating FRTONASA under Yoweri Museveni and Eriya
Kategaya, SAPOBA under Bidandi Ssali, Kintu Musoke and Kirunda
Kivejinja, remnants of UNLF , Labour party and some others.
By 1981, UPM had born a military wing PRA , which was joined by UFF
and they formed NRM/NRA and NRC which is still a power to reckon with.
