{UAH} BLAST FROM THE PAST
Frank Mujabi/ Gwokto,
Do you get traced by old friends on social media? It happens to me a lot. Here is one, of a former muganda classmate of mine at University of Hull who I have not met since 1986. I think most of my life I have made strong friendships some of whom never forget me.The most moving trace was actually of a young Filipina girl who I met in the middle of the Philippines civil war. I had to evacuate a group of children from a war zone because the army would not allow any adult Filipino out of that area as it was cordoned off for military operations. As heavy aerial bombardment was going on- I had to walk with these children to a Red Cross base almost 10 miles away through mountainous terrain. This 7 year old child fell down and sprained her ankle, so could not walk, so I had to carry her on my shoulders for almost 6 miles. Looking back, I can not believe that I had such physical strength at the time. But I left the Philippines and forgot all about the child and the incident. But she never forgot me. She spent the next 15 years trying to trace me. to thank me for saving her life. She tried google, but came up with so many people with the same names as myself. So one day, she made an appeal in a Manila paper, asking if anybody knew me- the paper at the time was running stories about the killings that took place in Luzon island in the period 1985-1989 in the hope of tracing many people who disappeared. Within days, she had loads of responses of Filipinos who know me, and to her shock, she was told that I was in Philippines just recently. So we connected and I eventually met her again- this time as a grown up girl- attending medical school.
Bobby,

Hello, Is it possible to hear from my colleague Counsel George Okello? I first met him at the University of Hull, England UK in 1986. We have not heard from each other for a very long time. As and when you visit Uganda please call me and let us share a moment together by reminding ourselves the Hull days. Sincerely, George W.K.L.Kasozi, Mobile
