Uganda heeds President Trump's threats, abstains from UN vote on Jerusalem's status
The vote came a day after US President Donald Trump threatened he would cut aid to countries that voted in favour.

Uganda was among the 35 states that abstained from the vote at the UN general assembly.

However, 128  countries voted in favour and 9 against.

21  countries did not cast their vote.

The vote came a day after US President Donald Trump threatened he would cut aid to countries that voted in favour.

The  UK and allies like Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq, who are major recipients of U.S. military or economic aid were among those who voted in favour of the resolution.

Reuters News agency reports that after the vote, US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley asked the 64 countries who voted no, abstained or did not cast a vote to attend a January 3rd reception to thank them for their friendship with the United States.

Uganda is a major recipient of US aid in areas such as health, agriculture, and trade
