For Immediate Release
Friday, December 15th, 2017
Vice President John Julius Muwulya Lwebuga Assumes UNAA Presidency on an Interim basis pending new election for the Presidency
"As we speak, the final audit report will be coming out soon, and what you will see should get you extremely worried about the state of UNAA & a need to make hard and challenging decisions. Mr. Peter Mukunya - his actions have put this organization in arms way with a possibility of even shutting us down"
Dear UNAA Members,

December 15th 2017 – In a stunning development that is sure to send shockwaves throughout the organization, Engineer John Julius Muwulya Lwebuga, named UNAA Interim President in November by the UNAA Board of Trustees after recalling the UNAA Miami 2017 elections, released a statement (Please see link to attached document below) asking his fellow UNAA Executive member, Mr. Peter E. Mukunya the UNAA Executive Secretary to resign for the good of the organization.
It is unclear if Mr. Mukunya has accepted to resign as he still controls the organization's official communication channels through the Secretariat.
"As we speak, the final audit report will be coming out soon, and what you will see should get you extremely worried about the state of UNAA & a need to make hard and challenging decisions. Mr. Peter Mukunya - his actions have put this organization in arms way with a possibility of even shutting us down"
President Lwebuga mentioned Mr. Mukunya's role in the election saga as per the UNAABOT and apparently the preliminary results of the ongoing financial audit – the first in UNAA's 29 year history. Despite the UNAA Constitution requiring the UNAA Board of Trustees to order an audit each year, this is the first UNAABOT that is actually fulfilling its constitutional obligation.
11.5: Audits. The Association's books, accounts and all financial records shall be audited annually by an independent, certified auditing firm selected by the UNAA Board of Trustees.
This explains the enormous respect that the current UNAA Board of Trustees enjoys within the organization membership and the leadership organs.
He also proposed extending the UNAABOT's term in office to beyond Seattle to ensure continuity as the organization works towards implementing the audit recommendations and avoid a power vacuum with their three year term set to end before Seattle.
It helps that he is also the Seattle Convention Organizing Committee Chairman.
He stated that, "At this time, we need to stand up and do the right thing. We all need to stand up and be honest with one another on where we have gone wrong and how we can stand up and do the right thing. It is duly within us to do so. UNAA will go forward from strength to strength but we need to all come together. I am ready to work with all UNAA leaders and members towards this effort"
In an ambitious new bold plan for UNAA, President John Julius Muwulya Lwebuga called for financial policies, standards of procedure, a constitutional review committee, and a special advisory committee composed of UNAA's Founding Members and Former leaders to advise the UNAA President.
First elected to the UNAA Council in September 2015 in New Orleans, President Lwebuga served as the Deputy Speaker of the UNAA Council, 2015-2017 and was elected unopposed in the September 2017 Miami elections before ascending to the interim presidency after the UNAABOT decision recalling the contested positions in Miami.
President Lwebuga was previously Chairman of the University of Portland Alumni Board (2015-2016) as well as the Student Body President at the University of Portland (2014) presiding over a budget of almost $1 million. He graduated from the University of Portland with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
He was a member of the Board of Regents for the University of Portland as an ex-officio member and currently sits on the board of a non-profit organization called Harambee center which in Swahili means coming together.
He is Project Manager for Hoffman Corporation in Seattle, WA.
Sincerely,

Eng. John Julius M. Lwebuga
