{UAH} Media centre boss Ofwono Opondo criticises President Museveni over cash handouts
It's quite a prevalent practice for the president to give cash handouts to the electorate. For his critics, its part of the archetypal clientele-patronage politics where the incumbent rents electorate support.
Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has joined a list of critics who are accusing President Yoweri Museveni of sustaining a culture of giving cash handout
Opondo was speaking at a public dialogue on the state of human rights in Uganda as the country joins the rest of the world to observe the International Human rights day.
Opondo says some people in government tasked to advise the president are not doing their work diligently.
He also lashed at MPs who mount pressure on the president to give them money, which he says is for selfish interests.This comes at the time reports are rife that ruling party lawmakers want 40m shs each and in turn vote in favour of lifting the presidential age limit
Opondo says this is a crisis of monumental proportion for the country.He was this morning speaking at a public dialogue on the state of human rights in Uganda as the country joins the rest of the world to observe the International Human rights day.Other Human rights activists blamed government for the continued violation of human right sin the country especially by state security agencies.
