{UAH} SOLD TO THE MAN IN YELLOW: Anywar ready to work with President Museveni

Anywar ready to work with President Museveni
The Member of Parliament for Kitgum Municipality Beatrice Anywar says she is ready to work with President Museveni if called upon at any time.

In an interview with NTV, the MP who was for a long time very critical of the government, justified her stand in voting for the constitutional amendment on lifting the presidential age limit

Last week Parliament passed the contentious Constitutional Amendment (No. 2) bill 2017, where 317 MPs voted in favor of the amendments, one of which was for the removal of the presidential age limits. Kitgum municipality MP Beatrice Anywar was one of those who voted yes, to the shock of many of her colleagues in the opposition.

Anywar, who earned herself the name Mama Mabira when she vehemently opposed plans to give part of Mabira Forest to the Sugar Corporation Uganda Limited in 2007, says she is an independent MP with no leaning to any political party.

She explains that she voted "yes" for the bill because it contained one of the proposed amendments she was interested in, and also that her constituency had given her the go-ahead to support it.

Anywar said the behavior of her colleagues in the opposition was unbecoming of legislators.

The former FDC member thinks that many of the opposition MPs were playing to the gallery.

Anywar says she is willing to take up an assignment in government if the opportunity arises.

And she says that through President Museveni she can be more enabled to deliver better services to her people in Kitgum.

Does she have any regrets about her position concerning the constitution amendment bill?

On the question of the addition of two more years for MPs to make it a 7-year term, Anywar knows that there are people in the opposition who support it.

She also feels this is a win-win as the presidential term limits were restored.

And to questions on why she was quiet throughout the debates on the age limit, she says she has fought her battles and it is time for others to be at the frontline.

Now that the bill has been passed, Opposition lawmakers have threatened to go to the courts of law and challenge the process.

The Independent MP was one of the core opposition figures in the 8th and 9th parliaments but she now says the FDC party frustrated her. What is her relationship with former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, whom she seconded for a presidential nomination in 2015?

For now, Anywar insists that it is her political foes who are envious of her progress because they have failed to deliver to the community.
