SK Mbuga and his wife Chebet.

Sulaiman Mbuga is in custody of Swedish prosecutors after he was arrested and airlifted to the European country with the help  of Ugandan authorities.

The socialite and businessman and his wife Vivienne Chebet have been on the spot after revelations in Sweden that their lavish lifestyle is funded by a heist-like fraud they pulled in Sweden three years ago.

Speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity and secrecy of the arrest, a source at Interpol Uganda said SK Mbuga, known for flaunted his seated opulence, was airlifted to Sweden upon arrest Monday morning.

This news website could not readily establish from the source where Mbuga was picked from since the 'tycoon' has not been in the public view since January 4 when a Swedish newspaper published allegations that makes him and his wife criminals in Sweden.

If the revelations hold, it will be a case of champagnes and cuffs, two items held in antithetical feeling. While the two might have a little more than a letter in semblance, that will not stop one from experiencing both. For Sulaiman Mbuga, better known as SK Mbuga, it appears the cuffs are tighter on the wrist than many suspects in custody feel.

The self-styled businessman's January started in smoke and appears could end in a pit of fire after he was arrested for alleged fraud related to acquisition of Shs23 billion.

The couple was indicted in Sweden 0ver charges of obtaining money by false pretense. Mbuga was jointly wanted in Sweden along with his wife Chebet, but this website could not immediately ascertain whether Chebet is also in custody as sources at Interpol were not willing to openly discuss the matter.

Earlier in January, a Swedish newspaper, Expressen, published a story that claimed that Chebet had lured a Swedish politician, Sten Heinsoo, into false promises of love and gold (from Uganda), which resulted into the fraudulent transfer of 53 million krona (Shs23 billion) to Uganda.

It happens that Sten Heinsoo, 71, was suspected of gross fraud after disappearing with between over 46 million Krona from a wealthy family. Heinson was arrested and subsequently confessed to losing the money in a fraudulent love affairs and gold deal in Uganda, according to the newspaper.

The newspaper revealed that Heinsoo was charged with gross negligence against the principals of trust, while Chebet, 33, was charged by the Stockholm District Court for several cases of gross fraud against Heinsoo in absentia. Chebet, with descent in Kapchorwa, is said to have held a Swedish citizenship for a while.

Mbuga, 34, who married Chebet in 2016 in Kampala in one of the most lavish weddings the country has seen, became a suspect in the case by virtue of his liaison with Chebet.

In interrogation, Heinsoo told police that Chebet told him her wealthy father in Uganda had died and left behind a large gold mine which was both difficult and costly to transport to Sweden. Heinsoo offered to help financially to facilitate the transfer of gold to Sweden and be refunded after selling. He unlawfully used his trustees money with the view that he will pay back after the sales.

When the story became public in Uganda, Interpol Uganda denied they had received any request for arrest of the lavish couple. Interpol headquarters also did not have the Ugandan on their wanted list.

But, in a turn of events, sources at Interpol now say SK Mbuga is being detained in secret as Swedish investigators tie loose ends in the case.

While he has not given media interview, Mbuga has previously laughed off the accusations by Swedish authorities. He posted a picture of Expressen publication under the caption: "Are they talking about me or someone else?"
