{UAH} Nothing much will happen in Uganda in the next three (2018-2021)!
Using my little experience on practical economics – nothing much will
happen in Uganda in the next three 2018-2021!
All the time I have been here, there is no single year ever that has
ever faced a shortage of; builders, plumbers, masonries, electricians,
road construction workers, construction engineers or architects
etc.,!
The above is the real middle class not blue collar workers.
Uganda's economy will largely remain consumer based for a foreseeable
future. The reasons are very simple. NRM Government is not investing
in fast moving sectors like (expansive macroeconomics structures);
mass housing, social services and urban infrastructure.
All resources are locked in roads, oil and gas sectors.
That is practically a non starter in terms of having an expansive
macro-economic policy normally and successfully used by social
democrats in Europe. Ours is a selective policy largely run at the
whims of China and its EXIM banks.
The oil and gas sector though might be high income generator for a
nation, has very little social impact. The expected 2 billion dollars
from oil and gas can be generated from mass investment in housing,
social and urban infrastructure.
If we do what social democrats do in Europe, Uganda can generate
almost 4 times what the oil and gas industry can bring each year from
now.
