{UAH} Mueller Hits Paul Manafort With 32 New Charges

Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Thursday filed new charges against Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chairman, and Rick Gates, his deputy. Manafort, who was previously charged with fraud and money laundering, now also faces tax charges. The trial is set to be later this year, but has no set date and has been subject to delays from both sides. This comes as Mueller recently indicted Alex van der Zwann, an associate of Gates, and 13 Russians from the Internet Research Agency, which was part of the effort of Kremlin-linked operatives interfering with the 2016 presidential election. The Daily Beast also reported on Thursday that Gates had fired his lawyer, who had attempted to strike a plea deal for the client.\\

The charges against Manafort and Gates don't relate to any allegations of misconduct related to Trump's campaign. They are accused of directing a covert Washington lobbying campaign on behalf of pro-Russian Ukrainian interests.
