Police ICT Director Ngabirano Resigns, Flees Uganda
The controversial Police Director in charge of ICT, Amos Ngabirano resigned and left Uganda, officials said Sunday.
ChimpReports last year broke news that President Museveni had directed IGP Gen Kale Kayihura to fire Ngabirano.
Museveni made the instructions during a high level security meeting at one of his upcountry residences.
The instructions came amid concerns of growing concerns that the police institution especially its leadership, had been infiltrated by criminals.
Ngabirano was involved in the planned procurement of CCTV cameras to beef up security in Kampala city.
By end of last year, reports indicated that Ngabirano was being investigated at a higher level over allegations of corruption, primitive accumulation of wealth and abuse of office.
But speaking to us, Ngabirano said he was executing his assignments without any interruption.
He further dismissed the accusations leveled against him as groundless.
Informed officials say Ngabirano, the only civilian police director, was recently in Dubai and Kenya.
It remains unclear if he will eventually settle in Britain as he boasts British citizenship.
Ngabirano was appointed by Gen Kayihura to that position which he has held since 2005 due to his capabilities in the ICT docket.
Police spokesperson Emillian Kayima said he could not confirm the development as he needed to caryr out more consultations.
