This was revealed at a ground breaking ceremony of a new Uganda peoples defence forces referral hospital to be constructed at Mbuya military Barracks

It is estimated that 100,000 East African patients travel abroad to seek medical treatment for complicated cases annually and the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces is no exception when it comes to treating its personnel with complicated health conditions.

The Minister of Defence, Adolf Mwesigye revealed at the groundbreaking ceremony of a specialised Uganda peoples defence forces  referral hospital to be constructed at Mbuya military barracks, that the facility, when completed, will reduce the army's expenditure  on medical referrals both to local hospitals and abroad

The Chief of Defence Forces General David Muhoozi said the facility will address the much needed medical expertise and services needed in the forces

The minister of Health, Ruth Aceng, urged UPDF to build enough capacity to address the common health challenges faced by the communities in which they operate around the country.

Aceng also called on the Chinese contractor to ensure value for money while executing the project

The 250-bed state of the art specialized referral hospital for Uganda will be constructed at a cost of 105 billion while the medical equipment will cost 30 billion shillings.
