Communists ordered to work 'full tilt' to get Jeremy Corbyn into No 10, hard-left leader reveals

Last year the party didn't put any candidates up against Labour ones - to give them a better chance of winning seats

COMMUNISTS have been ordered to work "full tilt" to try and get Jeremy Corbyn into Downing Street, a leading left figure has declared.

Susan Michie, from the Communist Party of Britain, said the party wanted to build their "organic ties with Labour" and everyone should be trying their best to get him elected.

She told a Communist event in London last night: "Communist Party members should absolutely be involved in electoral work, and working full tilt to get Jeremy elected as leader, and the Labour party into government."

The party did not put up candidates to stand against Labour during last year's election - which was likely to have led to a boost in votes for Mr Corbyn's party.

Ms Michie told the event, titled 'Working with Labour for a Socialist future' that the party would continue to not stand people against them, PoliticsHome reported.

She said the party "fully support Jeremy Corbyn" and they will be putting the socialist message "out on the doorstep" and in the hard-left Morning Star newspaper.

Moderates are likely to be furious at further ties to the hard-left.

Already many are believed to have left the party and joined Labour to fight to get their communist agenda into the party.

Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has repeatedly celebrated Marxism - and is due to speak at an event to mark 200 years since the revolutionary leader's birth later this summer.

And The Sun revealed last month that Mr Corbyn himself had met with a communist spy at the height of the Cold War.

The Labour leader denied he met a spy and has insisted he only held meetings with diplomats.

"This electoral policy is a potential springboard for strengthening organic ties with Labour," Ms Michie stressed at the meeting, surrounded by communist flags.

"We can also use our significant influence in trade unions and campaigning organisations to show that Labour party policies will be closer to members interests than other electoral parties.

"We are in a really good situation to work much more closely that we have in the past.

"The Communist Party and the Labour left have much in common and have a track record of impressive joint working in trade union campaigns and elections."
