Does this article give a theory why Raila Odinga has instigated the collapse of the NASA coalition?  If true, then it shows Raila Odinga in a less than salubrious light; that he is a schemer and an unreliable opportunist. It would show that one of his motives for the "handshake" with Jomo Kenyatta was to trigger the collapse of the coalition, and so leave him free to stand again in 2022,  or to choose a candidate from his own party to stand in his place. It seems the pact he signed  with  his coalition partners precluded him from standing again, win or loose the 2017 elections, and obliged him  to support one of the other co-principals as flag bearer for the NASA coalition. It seems Raila does not want to go along with this deal and has found a convenient route of reneging on it in the collapse of the coalition.. 

This is what it says: 

"According to a pre-election agreement lodged before the 2017 elections, the coalition can only be dissolved if at least three parties opt out. In the event that Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya opt out, the alliance would officially be over. Political pundits say Raila's party would not mind a collapse of the coalition to get itself out of a legally binding agreement that excluded Raila and ODM from fielding a presidential candidate in the 2022 General Election."
