Joseph Etima, former commissioner General of Uganda Prisons is dead

Former Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons and former member of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, Joseph Etima has died.

The cause of death has not yet been established and is pending autopsy. However, the President of the West Nile Foundation, Caleb Alaka confirmed the death of the former Commissioner General saying that Etima had died at Nakasero Hospital in the evening of 23rd June, 2018.

According to his family, the condition of the deceased worsened in the recent days.

Joseph Etima served in the Prisons from 1966 starting as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Prisons. He managed to climb up the ranks until he became the Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons. He also was once Uganda's representative to the UN Commission on Human Rights and others
