THOMAS SANKARA (left) of Burkina Faso with SAMORA MACHEL of Mozambique (right) in 1984. Thomas Sankara seized power in Upper Volta in 1983 and changed the country's name to Burkina Faso (meaning the land of incorruptibles). Samora Machel led his country's guerrilla warfare to achieve independence from Portuguese colonialists in 1975 and became its president. But the lives of the two radical militant African leaders were untimely terminated by the imperialists and their local agents. Samora Machel was killed in an obscure plane crash in October 1986 and Thomas Sankara was murdered in a coup led by his deputy and closest friend in October 1987. Although they had succeeded in killing them, their spirits, ideals and legacies live on nourishing Africa everyday. THERE IS VICTORY FOR US!
