Boris Johnson resigns as Foreign Secretary plunging government further into crisis

Boris Johnson plunged the government deep into crisis today as he dramatically quit as Foreign Secretary.
The announcement comes hours after his fellow Eurosceptic David Davis resigned as Brexit Secretary shortly before midnight on Sunday.
The resignations of two of the Cabinet's most senior ministers left Theresa May's government in its most tenuous position since last year's general election result.
Speculation had mounted that Mr Johnson could quit after he failed to attend a meeting of the Government's Cobra emergencies committee as well as a summit of Western Balkan nations being held in London.
A Downing Street spokesman said: "This afternoon, the Prime Minister accepted the resignation of Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary. His replacement will be announced shortly. The Prime Minister thanks Boris for his work."
Staunch Brexiteer Dominic Raab was named as Mr Davis's replacement as Secretary of State for Leaving the EU.
Labour's deputy leader, Tom Watson, said the twin resignations showed the government is in "meltdown".
He added: "This is complete and utter chaos. The country is at a standstill with a divided and shambolic Government. The Prime Minister can't deliver Brexit and has zero authority left."
Amid speculation over Mr Johnson's whereabouts, a security team including six police motorcade riders, along with a Land Rover and his official car were left waiting on his driveway for most of the day.
Officers twice warned journalists the Foreign Secretary was about to leave, only to then say they had been told to stand by.
