At least 75 people were killed in three large terror attacks over the weekend, with many others killed or wounded in other strikes around the globe carried out by ISIS, al-Qaeda and others hellbent on destroying normality and introducing radical Islam.
ISIS affiliate Boko Haram attacked a village in Chad,killing 18 and kidnapping 10 women (Arabic-language link). This incident took place close to Lake Chad on the border with Niger. Boko Haram, which literally means "Western education is forbidden," has wreaked destruction predominantly upon Nigeria since 2009 when it began its deadly insurgency campaign to install sharia law as the law of the land.
ISIS says it was behind an explosion at the main gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.The attack targeted the country's vice-president(Arabic-language link), Abdel Rashid Dostum. However, he survived, having left several moments prior to the blast. At least 30 were killed in the attack and 60 wounded. ISIS is a rising force in Afghanistan, attempting to sow discord with the government, draw fighters away from the Taliban and use the country's rugged terrain to elude American and coalition forces. From the ashes of defeat in Iraq and (to a lesser extent) Syria, the group managed to successfully reposition itself, making Afghanistan its new international base.
Al-Qaeda's Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for an attack on a military base in southern Somalia in which27 soldiers lost their lives(Arabic-language link). "First we attacked the base with a booby-trapped vehicle and then we charged…We took control of the base. Some soldiers fled to the forests," said Al-Shabaab Spokesman Abed el-Aziz Abu Mas'ab. Al-Shabaab is fighting to overthrow the government of Somaliaand impose a theocratic state ruled according to their interpretation of sharia law. Al Shabaab was responsible for a truck bombing that killed at least 358 people in Mogadishu in October 2017, among many other horrific terror attacks.
