Kadaga wants bedridden Nambooze punished for missing parliamentary committees
By our reporter
For starters, Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze is one of the opposition legislators who were badly injured during the Age Limit fracas at parliament on 27 September, 2018.
On November 2, a sedated Nambooze was flown to India for a spinal surgery after being treated for more than a month at Bugolobi Medical Centre in Kampala.
As per doctors' instructions, Nambooze was supposed to go back to India for a medical review in early June but she was arrested before flying out of the country following the murder of Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
The legislator is one of four people who were put under investigations for their communication on social media before and after the death of Abiriga and his brother Saidi Butele Kongo.
But it should be noted that ever since, she was manhandled and injured during the incident, Nambooze has been in bad shape health wise.
Surprisingly, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga did not consider the MP's health condition before issuing a warning to her for missing committee activities.
In a letter issued a week before Nambooze's arrest, Kadaga said that Nambooze missed 19 out of 23 meetings of Public Service and Local Government committee without permission.
She further warned the ailing MP that if she misses committee activities in the next session, she will face disciplinary action under rules 111 (7) and 112 (2) of rules of procedure.
