The armed Rwanda authority has said its has reclaimed its boarder of Nyaruguru from rebels group staged series of attacks in the province over the past few week.
The armed militia groups National Liberation Forces (NLF),the military wing of an opposition party, the Rwanda Movement for Democratic Change (RMDC) led by Paul Rusesabagina, has claimed responsibility for the July attacks in Nyabimata and Kivu Sectors in Nyaruguru District.
Gang who were hiding in Nyungwe forest attacked the villages with guns and machetes killing at least two people, injuring and kidnapping hundreds of the local in the communities.
Police said the group stole animals, food and looted several shops.
Several vehicles were also destroyed and homes vandalised.
Rwanda accused the neighbouring Burundi of hosting the militants an accusations Burundi has termed as baseless and unfounded. Bujumbura said Kigali was using the cheap accusations as cover up for their act of training, arming and financing Burundi opposition youths with sole purpose of toppling president Piere Nkurinziza.
This is the second attack reported in the area since beginning of July.
The vice president of the RMDC who doubles as the spokesperson of the NLF Callixte Nsabimana alias Sankara said their struggle is to overthrow the Kagame led government denying any link with Burundi emphasizing that they are involved in local liberation struggle.
He accused Kagame of safocating democracy and human rights abuses stating that they are well prepared to topple his government.
Military has heavily deployed in the area to dwarf any future attack but Sankara said their forces are well established in all parts of Rwanda.
Police in a statement released yesterday said they have mechanisms to foil further attacks adding that Sankara is a criminal who will be arrested and brought to book.
Government officials including ministers, top police boss and military officials visited the province and reassured the residents.
