Tens Of Thousands Planning To Protest Trump's UK Visit As Security Ramps Up

The event is set to cost the taxpayer £5m

In April it was confirmed that Donald Trump would visit the UK in July to coincide with a trip to the NATO summit in Brussels.

Trump originally planned to open the new Battersea-based US embassy in January, but pulled out blaming the "off location" of the new building. Nothing to do with the mass protests that were planned at the time, of course...

Though he is not being afforded the full ceremony of an official state visit for his trip, it looks like Trump will still meet with the Queen.

"Mr Trump is likely to touch down at Stansted Airport before being flown to the US Ambassador's residence in Regent's Park before dinner at Blenheim Palace," the Evening Standard report. "During his the three-day trip, he will meet with Theresa May at Chequers before joining the Queen at Windsor Castle."

"He is then expected to visit Turnberry golf course in Scotland before jetting back to the US."

A Facebook event titled 'Protest Trump's visit' currently has over 53,000 planned attendees with a further 151,000 listed as 'interested' in the event. The scale of the protest mean that between 5,000 and 10,000 officers working overtime for the visit costing the taxpayer up to £5m.

The Times report that, "Riot vans, search dogs for firearms and explosives, helicopters, mounted officers, public order units, protest removal units and evidence-gathering units will join counterterrorism and specialist protection officers to guarantee the US president's safety."

The Trump administration is currently facing global condemnation after their policy of separating families at the border has been compared to child abuse. Images of children held in cages have caused an extreme backlash and are likely to inspire many to come out and protest.

The Facebook event states that, "actions will be happening across the country as part of the Carnival of Resistance."

For the mass protest in London the provisional plans are:

14:00 Assemble outside the BBC building in Portland Place

March to Trafalgar Square

17:00 - 19:00 Rally in Trafalgar Square

One campaigner is even attempting to to float a helium-filled blimp of Trump as a baby during the visit. A protest which is likely to bruise his fragile ego.
