{UAH} Trade and Investments Forum at the UNAA Convention

10th Annual Uganda/North America Trade and Investments Expo

at the

30th Annual UNAA Convention

Seattle, WA

Friday August 31, 2018

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

This forum features discussions on trade and investments between Uganda and North America and has been featured at every UNAA convention since 1994 in Los Angeles.  Initially, it was packaged as part of a more general “Business Forum” which also included discussions on entrepreneurship and business practices in North America.

However, it was at the 2009 UNAA Convention in Chicago that the very first formal “Uganda/North America Trade and Investments Forum” was held over an entire day at the start of the convention and it became an annual feature from then on.

There have been some misunderstandings over the purpose of this forum that warrant clarification.  This is a very Uganda-centric forum which seeks to shed light on the prevailing investment climate in Uganda and, hopefully, feature potential investment opportunities.  For that reason, speakers tend to be primarily government and private sector officials from both Uganda and North America presenting information on trade and investment between the two regions.  Topics of discussion have included opportunities and realities in the following sectors.

-          Uganda’s oil industry

-          Real estate

-          Agriculture

-          Manufacturing

-          Tourism and Hospitality

-          The import and export of products such as clothing and handicrafts

-          Professional services

-          Infrastructure Development

-          Transportation

-          Food processing and storage

-          … and many others

On occasion, speakers made presentations on a specific project for which they sought investors.  One such instance was when the Chancellor of Gulu University made a presentation seeking investors to build residential halls for students at the University.  This presentation attracted the interest of an attendee from Canada who subsequently built 2 residential halls near the University.

In short, the forum simply creates an environment for members of the Ugandan community in North America and local North American businesses to meet, mingle, network and hopefully identify business opportunities to pursue.
