Fw: {UAH} Makueni man who assaulted wife sentenced to 12 years in prison

Bobby;

I am sure it was concluded timeously due to the fact that Nzomo pleaded guilty last week, and there being no need to call witness etc. etc. (the normal legal procedural steps when the accused pleads "Not guilty") allowed the magistrate to give judgement!

Nzomo had he pleaded not guilty; he would have ended with a longer prison sentence! When his parents gave interview after the inhumane battering of his wife, confirmed that he even beats them up physically plus he is the neighbourhood "law-unto-himself" beating all and sundry who cross his path!

Am sure, lawyers advised him to plead guilty on this regard! The DPP may enter an application to get the sentence reviewed upwards or any other Kenya or concerned party recognised in the Kenya 2010 Constitution!

Edmund,,

Do you remember this shocking case that went viral allover the world- of this kenyan man Nzomo beating up his wife so brutally no one thought she would survive? Well, it seems to be one of the few cases where social media has played a crucial role in getting a violent thug brought to book. Nzomo's video went viral  worldwide, and thereafter the kenyan government came under so much pressure to catch Nzomo.. He disappeared, but  was soon identified and and arrested. he has been swiftly put on trial and here is the result- 12 years in the coolers.

 Personally, I would have preferred if Nzomo was charged with Attempted Murder and given a life sentence- such was the shocking savagery and brutality he inflicted on a totally defenceless woman.

But the question many kenyans are now asking is this: Why is the criminal justice system so notoriously slow in all other cases? There are major cases of corruption whose files are collecting dust in court registreis, and many other cases even worse than Nzomo's where the criminals walk scot free after bribing the magistartes and judges.

Luckily, Mwende was rescued by her in-laws who rushed her to Makueni Level Four Referral Hospital, where she is recuperating.

It is said that the beating started after Nzomo received a phone call implicating Mwende of being unfaithful to him.

The 35-year-old woman has since received aid from Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia, who promised that she will be enrolled in a government financial programme.

"We will link the survivor with the socio-economic empowerment programme in my ministry will ensure that she is economically empowered," said Prof Kobia.j
