Man held for attempting to torch Museveni's farm

In Summary

• Intruders have made it a tendency to trespass on the president's Kisozi farm.
• In December 2016, unidentified people stormed President Museveni's farm and vandalised a wire mesh fence.
• In September same year , police in Gomba District, arrested three people over stealing cattle from the farm and one of them was a worker on the farm.
• He confessed that he had been stealing cows from the farm for a long time.

SEMBABULE. Police in Sembabule District on Monday arrested a man for allegedly plotting to torch President Museveni's farm.
The suspect, 45, was by yesterday morning still in police custody at Sembabule Police Station.
According to police preliminary investigations, the suspect who is a resident of Kasozi Village Kawanda Sub- county, in Sembabule District was allegedly seen by Amos Sserwadda,9, with a match box, ready to set the president's farm on fire.
The president's vast Kisozi farm is in Gomba District, about 100km west of Kampala, but also stretches to neigbouring Sembabule District.
In his statement at police, Sserwadda said: "I found him [suspect] with a match box while trying to set the farm on fire, when he saw me, he called me and told me not to dare say anything and if I do it, he will harm me."
However, the suspect dismissed the allegations, saying he is a good friend to President Museveni and cannot burn his farm.
"...President Museveni even built me a house. Some residents are just framing me to destroy my relationship with him. How can I do that to a person who is also helping me financially? "he asked.

What security says
According to Mr Sam Obicho, the Sembabule District CID, Sserwadda's statement cannot be disputed because as a young boy, he doesn't have any personal grudge with the suspect. "What the boy has told us cannot be taken lightly and as police, we are carrying out further investigations to establish what the real intention of this man was," Mr Obicho said during an interview yesterday.
Mr Obicho said, some residents in the area have a tendency of torching farms belonging to prominent livestock farmers.
"Thank God, we have got one [suspect] I am sure he will lead us to others," he said
