Speaking to KTN News at Parliament buildings on Friday, August 10, in an interview monitored by TUKO.co.ke, Barasa who was accompanied by Dagoretti North legislator Simba Arati alleged National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, Minority Leader John Mbadi and Speaker Justin Muturi were the masterminds behind the trashing of the report.
"Thursday will remain to be the darkest day in the National Assembly. We proved we had abdicated our duties and were no longer representing sugarcane farmers. I saw my colleague Fatuma Gedi dish out bribes, she tried to give me and my Sirisia counterpart John Waluke KSh 10,000 but we turned her away," Barasa alleged.
He was categorical he could prove there was massive bribery ahead of the debate on the report in the House, saying it was unfortunate greediness by some legislators had killed the dream of sugarcane farmers.

"I can prove my claims about my colleague Gedi. She was doing it openly. It would only need a review of CCTV footage because remember well the colour of her dress. Her intention and the majority who dismissed report was to frustrate sugarcane farmers and please cartels," Barasa added.

Arati backed the sentiments saying the bribery went on openly and unabated at the Senate cafeteria, saying MPs had dealt the sugar industry in Kenya a major blow but vowed to champion for cane farmers through other avenues.
"I saw a different Mbadi and Duale who instead of coming up with necessary amendments wholesomely rubbished the report besides being knowledgeable on Standing Orders. The Speaker only allowed three committee members to comment on document," Arati said.

Arati said shooting down the motion was a well calculated move which had put the National Assembly in shame and a wastage of taxpayers' money. Kieni MP Kanini Kega who co-chaired the joint Trade and Agriculture Committee which came up with the report said Mbadi had jumped ship and was astonishingly acting like the deputy leader of Majority.
