Staff at the Rotana Shisha in Birmingham told the BBC they had to escort Mr Tarin from the premises earlier on Monday after he "flew into the bar in a fit of rage".

He allegedly confronted and slapped his ex-partner Ms Oudeh at the shisha bar. Officers took statements from witnesses at the venue on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday Crimestoppers and West Midlands Police offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to Mr Tarin's detention. Police also released a video appealing directly to the lead suspect to hand himself in.

Last night West Midlands Police stated: "Police searching for the suspect in the double murder in Solihull have arrested a man."

Ms Oudeh and Ms Saleem are believed to have been stabbed to death at Ms Saleem's home in Northdown Road late on Monday night as Ms Oudeh was on the phone to police. They were both found dead shortly after midnight.

Ms Oudeh had a two-year-old child and her mother had six children. Both victims were originally from Syria.

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield, who is leading the investigation, said: "I would like to thank the community for their support over the last few days, the response to our appeals has been excellent and tonight resulted in this arrest."

Last night's arrest is reported to have taken place on Ivor Road. Unverified video posted on social media appeared to show a man in a red jacket surrounded by officers.

Three addresses were previously raided by police, including one in Sparkhill.

Police also said the suspected murder weapon had been recovered.
