{UAH} BANYALANGO

Annet  Kobby,

Here is this lovely Lango-Munyankole friend of mine watching Arsenal play on Sunday. I am not sure if you are aware, but up to 1986 there were very many Banyankole who lived in Lango- going back many generations. They integrated in Lango culture and spoke the language just as any local, some intermarried, while others  retained their Ankole culture. Unfortunately most left when the NRA came to power in 1986  and began a policy of killing people and  dividing the country along ethnic lines. Many of the banyankole and other bantus left Lango in droves, fearing they would be killed. But these internal exiles, like this family, now relocated to London,  have never forgotten their Lango  roots and many want to return to Lango, the only home that they really know.
