{UAH} Hundreds dead in Tanzania ferry tragedy: As they say "Obwato bufa magooba"

Folks:

condolences to the families of those who died in the MV Nyerere ferry tragedy in Tanzania. Their death is a perfect illustration of the Luganda saying "obwato bufa magooba"/a boat sinks when it is about to reach the shore.  Why? Because everyone gets excited that they are home safe ad ignore safety  procedures. That is exactly what happened with Mv Nyerere. As it approached the shore, most passengers ignored safety and apparently moved to one side. Then the boat then capsized due to lack of balance.

Just like that so many , to be exact over 100 died with swimming distance of the shore.  That so many died demonstrates that the authorities never expected it to happen so  close to the shore, hence no measures in place.  Yet as the saying teaches, most tragedies happen  similarly, very close to the shore.

Leeson: if you are on a boat , pay attention as it approaches the shore.

Lesson two, people who use the lake for transport or food should learn swimming. Unfortunately most African are water phobic  How many of those Ugandans surrounded by water can swim? Nay, how many of you UAH members can swim? Not many. Big mistake,
