DR CONGO SUBSTITUTES FOR SOUTH SUDAN.
Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Mrs. Amelia Ann Namagera Kulubya Kymbadde has called upon Ugandans especially those that were operating in South Sudan, to move to DR Congo, where the market is bigger.
At "Akabbinkano" talk show yesterday from 11.00 pm to 12.00 midnight on Bukedde TV l moderated by Charles Kaolooli Serugga Matovu, Amelia kyambadde said that she had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with her counter part in DR Congo.
By which Uganda's manufactured goods and agricultural produce shall be on the market in DR Congo so are those of DR Congo in Uganda under a COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa).
Under the deal, Uganda shall be importing timber from DR Congo and some other items like vitengi .
Under the deal, items worth less than seven million shillings, will be exempted from taxation. It is a way of discouraging smuggling.
At the peak of our trade with South Sudan, our ambassador in Kinshasa then, James WIlliams Kinobe, told me that eastern DR Congo had more potential even in terms of population. He is now in Khartoum.
But Amelia Kyambadde encourages Uganda'an exporters to do it in cooperatives and her ministry, she said was ready to facilitate.
Let us use this chance to get business and jobs for our youths and a market for our manufactured and agricultural produce.
