Gen Muntu Launches "New Formation:"

Former Forum for Democratic Change President Gen Mugisha Muntu, three days after announcing his breakaway from the leading opposition party, today unveiled a new political group.

The group named the "New Formation" was revealed at Hotel Africana in Kampala during a press conference which was attended by a number of Members of Parliament, District FDC chairpersons, delegates and party secretaries.

The New Formation according to General Muntu will be officially launched before this Christmas.
The group, Muntu said, was formed as a result of his nation wide consult actions, in which he interacted with citizens who advised him to leave the party.

His departure, he said was inevitable, owing to their reconcilable rift with in the FDC, with one side pulling toward "Defiance Only," while his side pulled towards structural organization of the party.

The only practical way to resolve this tension, Muntu said, was to "let those, whose views were chosen by the majority, to be allowed to carry out their agenda unimpeded".
Remaining in the FDC to continue fueling friction, Muntu said, was of no use to any one involved.

New Formation
The new group, Muntu revealed, is still skeletal and undergoing development.
"Over the next few weeks, we are going to embark on a participatory process of defining what this New Formation stands for ideologically," he said.
This, he said, would be done through public engagement of sector experts and Ugandans in general to define the New Formation.

The New Formation currently has no slogan or structure. Muntu and his team have however, set up a website (www.newformation.ug) for the group, on which Ugandans can register and choose what ways they can contribute and participate.

Gen Muntu emphasized during the press conference that his departure from the FDC was in "good faith" and expressed resolve to continue cooperating with his former party.
"We believe that this is mutually beneficial to the FDC and also to us. In fact if handled well, this could the beginning of greater cooperation with the opposition"
