Nigerian boy starves to death after 40-day fast
His parents have been arrested and charged with child neglect.
A Nigerian 15-year-old boy starves to death in Sauk County, located in Wisconsin, U.S. after a 40-day fast.
His death was reported to the Reedsburg police station by his father, 49-year-old Kehinde Omosebi, 49, according to Daily Gossip.
Making his case, he revealed that he is a cleric of Cornerstone Reformation Ministries. He added that the fast started on July 19, 2018.
Upon his report, he was followed home by police officers. There, they found the dead boy, his severely emaciated 11-year-old brother and mother, 48-year-old Titilayo Omosebi.
Police Chief Timothy Becker told Wisconsin State Journal that the house was padlocked from the inside. He also said, "The residence had no phone, no power, no food. There was a gym bag in the garage with some clothes in it. That was it, with the exception of a tambourine that was found."
According to the Assistant District Attorney Linda Hoffman, Kehinde explained to the police that his house was bare because he had sold their belongings, adding that they were planning to move to Atlanta. She added that he insists that he has done nothing wrong, despite the death of his teenage boy.
His son and wife were taken to the hospital where Titilayo refused treatment for religious reasons. Later, she was taken to the Sauk County Jail while the 11-year-old has been put in protective custody at Children's Hospital in Madison.
The couple has been charged with two felonies - child neglect causing death and child neglect causing great bodily harm. These two charges carry a combined maximum sentence of 37 years in prison.

Dying while fasting
Sadly, this young boy is not the first person to lose his life while fasting.
In 2015, a Zimbabwe man embarked on a 40 day and night fast in an attempt to imitate Jesus Christ.
He made to the 30th day which was when he slumped and died. That same year, a 73-yr-old prophet identified as Reinfirst Manyuka died after dry fasting in the mountains for 30 days.
Th next year, a popular pastor in South Africa, Alfred Ndlovu, also tried the famous Biblical 40-day and 40 night fast done by Jesus Christ. He died 30 days into the programme.
