COMMERCIAL sex workers in Eldoret have raised concern over an influx of university students into their business.

They said business is bad because of the students' encroachment.

One of the twilight girl who spoke to the Star at a common joint on Uganda Road said the intruders offer their services at throwaway prices.

"These young educated ladies are hurting our businesses. They will run us out of the market," she said.

The women said some of the students, including high school girls, have abandoned their studies because of the lucrative business.

Eldoret serves as a transit town to Uganda.

The most targeted group of customers are maize and wheat farmers who are swindled of millions of shillings.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has passed a legislative that will help tame the businesses.

"We will do all we can to ensure that we deal with this menace once and for all. We have to rebrand our town even some of the names of the buildings where the dirty business is conducted," he said.

Most of the dwellers of the towns have complained that they are embarrassed by the women when crossing the streets.

"I was embarrassed one day when I was taking a stroll with my family when one of this ladies shouted whether she could offer me her services," said Jackson Koech, a resident.
