{UAH} Fraud charge Greenwich councillor Tonia Ashkodi to go on trial in April

Frank Mujabi/ Akim Jags odong,

Here is this Woolwich councillor who has thrown away a promising political career because of greed.. Tonia Asikodi was supposed to replace the longstanding  and current sitting Labour MP for Woolwich at the next election as he is retiring. Even if she is acquitted, her chances are now gone completely. There is something wrong with Africans- maybe we come from very poverty stricken backgrounds and always want to cut corners. But as a politician, Tonia should have known she would be in the public eye- her enemies both political ones in the Conservative party, and personal ones  in the Nigerian community, would be on the alert  waiting for any false move from her and to pounce..

A Greenwich councillor who has been charged with fraud and perverting the course of justice will go on trial next spring, Woolwich Crown Court heard today.

Tonia Ashikodi, 29, appeared in court this afternoon alongside her father, Tony Ashikodi, 49, after an investigation into her council tenancy and the ownership of private properties.

The Glyndon ward representative, who lives in Plumstead, is charged with two counts of fraud by misrepresentation in applications to Greenwich Council for housing in October 2008 and May 2012. She is also charged with perverting the course of justice in May 2018.

Tony Ashikodi, who lives in Thamesmead, is charged with perverting the course of justice at the same time.

Both spoke only to confirm their names.

Judge Nicholas Heathcote Williams QC set the trial date for 15 April 2019 at Inner London Crown Court.

He agreed that both defendants could be given unconditional bail.
