| George — There's a new petition taking off on Change.org, and we think you might be interested in signing it. | | | | Petition by Amina Atiq UK | | 3,768 Supporters | | | I moved to the UK nineteen years ago, my grandad immigrated in the 1950's along with his wife. We would visit Yemen every year in the summer. It's been 5 years since we last visited because it is now too dangerous for us to travel there. Instead we have to sit in front of our TV screen and watch British-made bombs fall on Yemen. I can't begin to tell you how that feels. I am campaigning for the UK Government to stop selling its arms to Saudi Arabia - who are fuelling the war in Yemen. No, this will not end the war. But it is our duty to pressure our Government to do what is morally and ethically right. This is an illegal and proxy war. The UK Government has been silent when confronted and I say silence is guilt! We know it is possible - last month Spain's defence ministry cancelled sales of bombs to Saudi Arabia because of concerns over the Yemen war. But instead of taking a stand against this horror, the UK has increased their support of the war. According to news reports, the number of British-made bombs and missiles sold to Saudi Arabia since the start of its attack in Yemen has risen by almost 500 per cent. According to the UN, since March 2015, 50,000 people have been killed as a result of an on-going famine, it is predicted that this will only get worse. People don't know whether to run away from falling missiles or die in hunger. The Yemeni people do not need bombs, they need food. Join me in campaigning, I urge everyone to sign the petition and share around with your friends and families. | | | | | | | | | |
