{UAH} Ocen, Edmund, WBK/The day Moi's rungu broke

Folks;

This article tells us that President Moi held some superstitious attachment to his rungu, and that he once ordered the government to violate an international boycott of South Africa in order get him another rungu.

While waiting for a connecting flight in Honolulu, Hawaii, after his dear rungu had broken into pieces in Los Angeles, Moi had his State House dispatch an aide with two rungus. The assistant would meet up with the president in Melbourne, Australia.

But the quickest route from Nairobi to Australia was via South Africa. This was at a time when OAU and Commonwealth nations had imposed travel bans and economic boycotts on South Africa.

So, in service of this traditionalist, Kenya had to violate the boycott!
