Syria: ISIS kidnaps 130 families from a refugee camp in Deir Ezzor
ISIS terrorists have kidnapped as many as 130 families from a refugee camp in Syria's eastern province of Deir Ezzor.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported intense battles between ISIS and the US-backed Kurdish SDF forces in eastern Deir Ezzor, the most violent battles east of Euphrates since the beginning of 2018, with fears for the lives of tens of women kidnapped by ISIS terrorists.
The Britain-based watchdog group said the battles have dramatically intensified over the past three days on the eastern side of Euphrates River.
The SDF launched the offensive against ISIS in eastern Deir Ezzor on Sept. 10 and since then the battles kept raging.
Even though ISIS holds a few pockets in that area, the battles are hard as ISIS terrorists resorted to several tactics to prevent the SDF from advancing through landmines and suicide bombings.
The Syrian army has cleared ISIS from large areas in Deir Ezzor Province, while the SDF is attempting to consolidate positions in the northern and northeastern countryside of the province.
Recent reports said the ISIS-controlled Syrian territory has shrunk to one percent from almost half of the country a couple of years ago.
