Zimbabweans react angrily to picture of Mnangagwa being vaccinated against cholera

Zimbabweans have reacted angrily to a picture of President Emmerson Mnangagwa being vaccinated against cholera in Harare.

Mnangagwa posted the picture on Twitter. 

"There is no bad time to get your cholera vaccine, even during a cabinet meeting! We have embarked on a vaccination drive to help protect our communities from this disease, and we encourage those in high density areas to get vaccinated," read part of Mnangagwa's tweet.

But Zimbabweans took a swipe at the president, saying he should instead focus more on fixing the country's economic crisis.

Corruption: Zim govt won't assist resettled farmers anymore, says minister

Zimbabwe's minister of finance Mthuli Ncube has reportedly said that resettled farmers will no longer get assistance from government, as the programme was "riddled with corruption".

According to Daily News, Ncube's decision came after the dramatic failure of the Farm Mechanisation Scheme that was introduced by former president Robert Mugabe's government in 2007.

The report said that more than $200 million that was pumped into the four-phase programme "did not produce any results".

Man kills granny, 105, over witchcraft claims – report

A Malawian man, 30, has reportedly been arrested for killing his 105 year-old grandmother over witchcraft allegations.

According to Nyasa Times, police confirmed the incident, adding that Mathias James forced his way into the woman's house after drinking beer in a neighbouring village.

James beat the deceased woman with a wooden spoon. The attack was so hard that the woman "collapsed and died on the spot", the report said.

Uganda's Bobi Wine accuses police of blocking concert

Ugandan pop star turned opposition MP Bobi Wine on Wednesday accused police of blocking him from holding a much anticipated concert this weekend.

In a letter seen by AFP, Uganda's head of police operations said Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, was "advised to call off the music show" planned for Saturday as he had failed to make proper arrangements with the venue operator.

The company managing the Mandela National Stadium said in a statement last week that the date chosen by Wine was unavailable.

Ethiopia PM says soldiers' protest attempt to derail reforms

Ethiopia's reformist prime minister says a meeting with disgruntled soldiers last week was an attempt to derail dramatic reforms and "there were some sides who regretted I was not killed."

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's comments to lawmakers on Thursday indicated that the march on his office by dozens of soldiers was the latest attempt to challenge his rule. Abiy already has faced an assassination attempt since taking office in April.

The meeting, which caused concern in the capital and prompted the government to cut internet services for hours, had been described as being over a "pay issue." Abiy, a former soldier, defused the situation by joining the troops in push-ups.
