{UAH} Your thoughts on This, please?

By Shawn Mubiru

I took time off to engage Engineer Winnie Byanyima on the Tweet she made that has sent tongues wagging in the last few days; below is her reply.

"I do not make propositions without thought or in anger and I'm not a hostage of angry supporters. We must explore ways to achieve a peaceful & orderly transition. A military coup or even a people's uprising may not guarantee the transition we want. (Check out Zimbabwe or Tunisia or Egypt)

Museveni's legacy is a mixed bag of positives & negatives. I need no lectures about his excesses. I have the scars from that abuse.

What's  wrong with persuading M7 to hand over power in Uganda, in exchange for  the much smaller project of leading  East African integration. He would be exercising very limited power that the national leaders delegate to him. (Can you name the head of the powerful EU?) We would be able to restore democracy,  tackle  rampant corruption and nepotism, revive the economy and open opportunities for our youth.
Uganda would move on.

Mandela made peace with de Klerk. Mandela  even accepted  a Nobel Peace prize with de Klerk - Thereby agreeing to share a legacy of transforming SA with his former oppressor. He made those painful personal decisions in order to end apartheid and so that the people of SA could start their journey of building a democratic country where all people would be treated equally.

I am not seeking popularity, I'm encouraging thought and action to take our country forward." Engineer Winnie Byanyima

"In tribute to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Uganda, two bastions of strength in a world filled with strife, discrimination and terrorism."
