Boy, 16, is arrested for stabbing his older brother to death as they argued over the TV remote control

Awful. A family torn apart over something as petty as that

  • The brothers had been in their family apartment in Kirikkale, Anatolia in Turkey
  • The teenagers had argued and fought over which TV channel they should watch
  • During the fight, the 16-year-old went to the kitchen where he picked up a knife
  • He then returned to stab his older brother, aged 18, who later died of his injuries

An 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his younger brother after a fight over a TV remote control.

The younger boy, 16, has been arrested for the attack which took place on November 20 at their family apartment in Kirikkale, Anatolia in Turkey.

The teenagers argued over which TV channel to watch with the younger boy going into the kitchen in anger.

While there, he picked up a knife and returned to the living room to stab his older brother.

The 16-year-old, identified only by the initials BK, fatally wounded his sibling in the attack.

According to local media, the family called an ambulance who rushed the injured boy, identified as IBK, to the Kirikkale Ihtisas Hospital.

However, despite the best efforts of emergency staff, the 18-year-old later died of his injuries.

His brother has been detained by the police, according to reports.

This is the latest disturbing story in a series of deaths over TV programmes.

Last month, a 13-year-old girl killed herself at her home in Nakuru County in western Kenya after she argued with her cousin about what programme to watch on TV.

In July, a young student from Kenya's Muranga County also killed himself after rowing with his cousin about what to watch on TV.

He reportedly hanged himself after his cousin switched over the television channel from what he was watching.

They rowed before the boy stormed out of the living room.

The boy's mother found his body hanging from his bedroom ceiling later that evening.
