Gbadolite, 14 years after Mobutu ...

Welcome to Mowanda / Gbadolite International Airport |
I just made a trip to Gbadolite, 14 years after Mobutu's departure! Well, I've never been there before. And at the time when Mobutu reigned, I was very young to understand some things. It was my first visit to this city that Mobutu had built in the '70s, I learned. What I noticed first, Gbadolite still has a stable power supply, thanks to the hydroelectric dam Mobayi-Mbongo built on the river Ubangi in 1989. The water flows regularly, although there is little doubt its quality because of this remarkable brownish color especially in the morning. When I saw the installations of the Régideso, that would seem to be abandoned, I concluded that the machinery was rusty ...There are really things to see in Gbadolite, even though most of the city's infrastructure has been destroyed by war. Many monuments have become shipwrecks, Mowanda airport is a shambles, the Coca-Cola factory serves as a garage. Many of Gbadolite's offices, banks and shops are largely empty. Just as the streets, although the city still keeps beautiful roads. Does it tell you a little tour in picture? Click to see moreOriginally Gbadolite, it was two villages (Gbado and Lite) in the deep equatorial forest that Mobutu (originally from Gbado) wanted to shape into a mini-capital, with replicas on a small scale of government offices.
