Kato Lubwama: NBS TV owner is after killing the TV industry in Uganda
NBS Tv is arguably one of the fastest growing Tv stations in Uganda.

However, Veteran entertainer and Lubaga South MP, Kato Lubwama says its owner, Kin Kariisa could be after killing the TV industry in Uganda.
"I have been very observant for quite sometime and my conclusion is, Kariisa is not here to grow the TV industry. Kariisa worked in State House and after accumulating money, he came to kill Tv," Kato Lubwama ranted Friday when we bumped into him at Serena Conference Center shortly after Maurice Kirya's concert.
"That's not how investors who are after developing the industry behave. Investors nurture talent. Someone can't be investing heavily in developing talent and your role is only to steal that talent. By doing this, you are not developing the industry in anyway. You are killing it. I too I'm an investor. I own a Tv station but I would never do this for it doesn't develop the industry in any way."
He thus advised him to start spotting and nurturing his own talent if he is really after developing the media industry in Uganda.
"If he succeeds in killing NTV and Spark that have proved to be his recruiting grounds for employees, where will he be getting his future employees?"
Explaining the grounds for his rants, Kato Lubwama said he was pained by the departure of Spark Tv's Zahara Totto and Annatalia together with their producer, Kafuko.
"I was never a fan of those girls. I never loved what they did; attacking everyone but being an ardent viewer of Spark Tv, I often found their program when I turned my TV on. Despite having my own TV station, I still watch Spark Tv. I even still make appearances on Spark Tv. Do you know why? As a local entertainer, no local Tv station has promoted Ugandan content like Spark Tv. You showcase out works to the public. You've made stars."
In his message to budding media personalities, he advised them that they shouldn't put money ahead of their careers.
"When switching from one employer to another, what should come first should be your career then money comes next. In my early days at CBS radio, our show Kalisoliso became a household name. Capital FM's owner, William Pike then approached me with a very huge offer.
"He was offering us Shs250million for me and colleagues to switch to Capital. At the time I was broke. I had never held any amount close to that tune of money. At CBS we were earning little at the time….we were earning just Shs1million a month but I still rejected this offer."
The reason he gave for rejecting the offer is that it wasn't good for his career.
"After weighing all options, I decided not to go to Capital FM. I asked myself, if I was to go to Capital FM, would my fans move with me? To switch to Capital FM, it would have been because of the influence of money, how about my fans, was I to share with them this money to influence them to follow me?
"If I switched, would my my show remain as big as it was on CBS? If the show was way below than what it was at CBS, what would be the fate of my career? All the on my head were NO. I thus rejected the offer and months later after rejecting it, I earned a deal worth millions from MTN where I organised their gigs. Sometimes patience pays."
Kato Lubwama reiterated the same statements when he later appeared on Spark Tv's 'Koona ne Miles Rwamiti'.
Since its first day on air in the 2000s, NBS Tv has recruited over 15 employees from NTV and its sister station Spark Tv.
Among these include Solomon Serwanja, MC Kats, Rukh-Shana Namuyimba, Dean Sava, Moses Walugembe, Charles Odong'otho, Anita Fabiola, Douglas Lwanga, Zahara Totto and others.
