{UAH} MP Nambooze: Zari should be promoting our lodges not tourism

Following her appointment as Uganda's tourism ambassador, socialite Zari Hassan has been touring different places in the country and posting photos on social media.

However, a section of Ugandans continue to rap the projecting as a mere wastage of tax payer's money.

Prominent among these is Pastor Martin Ssempa and Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze.

"In a few days, Zari the Boss Lady together with you (State minister for Tourism, Hon Godfrey Kiwanda) have been all over taking pictures. Zari has modelled carrying a basket of potatoes harvested from a Banana plantation in sandals! She has also taken pictures tethering or talking to goats.

"Additionally Zari has been photographed walking heavily guarded on the Kampala streets which in itself is self-defeating since the appearance of AK47 war guns send away tourists. It's akin to telling tourists 'Come here at your own risk'," Nambooze observed.

Much as she agrees Zari has a following, she adds that her following is not one that would tour the places she is visiting.

"Those tourists of the Zari calibre can't be interested in Lumonde or tethering goats… This is the life they ran away from when they chose to look like bazungu. Zari should be showcasing hotel lodgings, high end cafeterias, famous casinos, beaches, dance halls and bars. Zari's catch phrases would be for example 'Escape to…. safari lodge with your new catch for a weekend or Puff yourself away with Sisha as you gamble to richness at City Casino' or something in that line."

Her colleague, Pastor Martin Ssempa who has been very critical of Zari's appointment wholly agrees with Nambooze.

"Good looking woman… Would work as an ad for an Escort service promoting pretty ladies..Slay Queens photos Really misplaced for an adventure in the outdoors of Uganda's parks.. I mean.. Uganda," says Ssempa.
