MPS TO DEMONSTRATE AGAINST RAMPANT MUSLIM ARRESTS
By Mulengera Reporters
In his capacity as the Imam of Parliament, Latif Sebaggala (also Kawempe North MP) has written to police chief IGP Okoth Ochora asking him to prepare to provide security to the Muslim MPs and other Muslims across the country who later this month will be demonstrating against continued arbitrary arrest of Muslims. "We have come to a level where a Muslim gets brutally arrested every two days without any reason being given. Yusuf Kawooya was just one of them. And as the Imam of Parliament, I have a duty to call upon my colleagues to join me at Kololo to show our displeasure," says Latif Sebaggala. He adds that the Kampala demostration will be held at Kololo airstrip and that it will be massive. He says on the same day, other demos will simultaneously be held in the whole country at the various mosques immediately after Juma prayers. Latif Sebaggala says that whereas President Museveni is bittery opposed to demonstrations, its actually legal for people to show their displeasure from time to time by way of demondtrating. He says that's why all people, including Muslims, can camp outside White House in Washington and demonstrate from there for as long as they choose to. Latif says he will be using the resumption of Parliamentary business next week to intensify mobilization for his demo amongst fellow Muslim MPs. It remains to be seen if the planned countrywide demo will be permitted by Police.
