School children in Saudi Arabia taught anal sex causes natural disasters
Textbooks tell children both tops and bottoms should be killed
Schoolchildren in Saudi Arabia are learning that homosexuality leads to natural disasters and corruption.
The US' Anti-Defamation League (ADL) analyzed textbooks in government schools for the 2018-19 academic year. It found they promote incitement to hatred or violence against Jews, Christians, women, and homosexual men.
The ADL aims to end 'defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all'.
Its report, Teaching Hate and Violence: Problematic Passages from Saudi State Textbooks for the 2018–19 School Year founds dozens of troubling passages. The ADL said those passages also 'clearly propagate incitement to hatred or violence against Jews, Christians, Shi'ite Muslims, women, homosexual men, and anybody who mocks or converts away from Islam'.
'Because of Saudi Arabia's status as custodian of Islam's two holiest sites and its historic massive investment in religious proselytization abroad, the kingdom's textbooks have a significant international footprint and have been used in countries in Africa, Europe, and other parts of Asia,' the ADL said in a statement.
What the textbooks say about gay people
The Saudi textbook says anal sex corrupts the 'human soul' and should be punished with the death penalty. The books also tell children anal sex brings shame to an individual's family and entire tribe. These teachings reinforce the so-called 'honor killings' against LGBTI people. The curriculum even teaches that anal sex is to blame for natural disasters and corruption in society.
'The correct [ruling regarding sodomy] which the companions of the Prophet agreed upon is that both the top one and the bottom one are killed, whether they are married or unmarried,' one book called Jurisprudence reads.
'God forbade sodomy and was harsh in its punishment due to its bad effects on the individual and society. For it is a degeneracy in nature, and a corruption in character, kills virtue, and destroys morals, bequeaths depravity and lowliness in the soul of its perpetrator, eliminates modesty, and jealousy dies in the souls,' a passage on the same page reads.
False promises
Saudi Arabia assured the U.S. government it would remove all intolerant passages by the start of the 2008 school year. Even September this year, Saudi officials told U.S. audiences it had removed problematic sections from all textbooks.
'The United States must hold its ally Saudi Arabia to a higher standard,' said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.
'The US cannot look the other way while Saudi Arabia features anti-Semitic hate speech year after year in the educational material it gives to its children.'
