Roger Stone is in the crosshairs. Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III (pictured above) has asked for a transcript of Roger Stone's testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, The Washington Post reports, citing unnamed "people familiar with the request" about the former Trump adviser. The request—Mueller's first formal ask of the committee in connection with his investigation into Russian election interference—"suggests that the special counsel is moving to finalize his months-long investigation of Stone," the Post reports. Mueller is looking into whether Stone—who advised Trump's 2016 campaign—and the campaign had advance knowledge of WikiLeaks' release of Russian-hacked Democratic emails. Mueller could be seeking to file charges that Stone made false statements to Congress as leverage to compel Stone's cooperation, as he has with other Trump associates, the Post reports: " … Stone has given conflicting accounts about what prompted him to accurately predict during the 2016 race that WikiLeaks was going to unleash material that would hurt Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton." Stone told the Post that he has not been notified of Mueller's request but is confident that the transcript of his testimony will not provide the special counsel with grounds to charge him. |
